January 22 -

Thanks to Dan, Peter and PA A Capella for making this happen. This was a great Friday treat.

Thanks for your hard work to complete grades for Quarter 2 mastery reports. I know it's more work than in the past. Hopefully, as we improve the system and gain comfort with it, the time will lessen and the benefits increase. There are many questions and needs that remain and I ask that you keep me informed of your needs, ideas, and discoveries. I will do my best to support and advocate for your/our needs.

On that note, a number of questions have come up about 'numbers'. First, only courses that ended in January (semester courses) will have a number (overall course score) on this round of Mastery Reports. By now, you probably know that you don't need to do anything to make this happen. We are working on how this will look on student's transcripts and hope to have something to show this week.  We also have an explanation to send to colleges for seniors. Second, many of you have asked how to 'convert' or how will we 'convert' the proficiencies into a number on a %100 scale. We are NOT going to do this and you do NOT need to worry about how to do it. I'm sorry if this has caused confusion for you and students. We've learned a lot this fall about conversions, and for scores on the 5.0 scale, that we put on the Mastery Report, we are not currently going to convert them for the transcript. I plan to explain this to seniors very soon, probably this week.

Best Practice Update:
For this Monday's Best Practice, please bring a device - you will need it. We have several topics that need to be covered and they are listed in the Best Practice notes. Among the list of topics is a debrief of our ALiCE 'roll out' with students. Please refer to these questions prior to our meeting. If it helps your processing, go ahead and make a copy, write down some thoughts and bring them to the meeting. Thanks
