9/30 - Spirit Week

Twins from a previous life....get your outfits ready! (PS - Monday is Vermonter Day)

Hello all, I hope you are looking forward to a week full of fun school spirit and a colorful drive to work.

During Best Practice this week there will be a few options. The meeting will start with some important announcements on a variety of topics that impact all of you. Then you will have some time to complete your flex sign ups for this week and get support if needed. John M and Sheila J will be there to help. Yeah!

When you are set with flex, if your team is ready, you can jump into your transfer team work. I know some teams are excited to get started and others are not ready. For those of you who are not ready please work with Jess W and Jen to form productive and inspiring teams and how to get started. The purpose of this work is to both increase your understanding of the PBL system we are trying to create and to help you grow professionally. It should be something we look forward to doing to help you and our whole system grow and move forward.

Please arrive on time and ready to contribute to the work for the full hour. Thanks

Banned Books week - wow, we've got a lot of them

PBL Recovery - We need your input:

Our adoption of proficiency based learning has afforded students the opportunity to continue to work towards proficiency or “completion” after a class has ended.  Although we are still in the process of determining the best ways to allow for this, we are making progress. For some students, it’s worked very well. A few students utilized summer school opportunities, some are assigned to a traditional PBL block with Kim and are continuing the work, and others have minimal work to do and are scheduling time during flex to meet with their teacher.
A challenge has been determining the best way to change the grade once a student has finished. We'd like to make changes with the least amount of work and time for you. However, the only way for someone other than the original course teacher (you) to get into powerschool to change the grade, is if that teacher (you) gave their password to Sheila (or Maura or Melissa). Thus, one of two things can happen.
If you had a student who took advantage of a 'completion' opportunity, guidance will let you know the student and grade change. At this point, if you would like for someone other yourself to manage the grade change from a previous course, you will need to let Sheila know your password. Second, you can choose to go back into last year’s gradebook yourself to update a grade.  *Please remember  that students recovered proficiencies in a variety of ways, so the work students completed does not always need to be the original teacher's responsibility to grade or assess.

LSUU Community Engagement Night

On Monday, October 14th at 6pm the LSUU School Board and Administration will be conducting a 'Community Engagement Night'. This will be an opportunity for the communities of Elmore, Morrisville, and Stowe to come together to discuss our hopes and dreams for our unified schools. The event will start with a free dinner in the cafeteria followed by a short presentation and then small break out discussion groups led by school principals. We are hoping that lots of students and teachers can attend. Please consider spending an hour + with us on this evening to participate in this meaningful discussion.

We will be needing some student helpers for the event for things like greeters, child care, serving food and playing music. Please send me your suggestions for student helpers. Thanks.   *click here for news article and more details
