November 13 - Thank You

Lamoille Home Health & Hospice asked our students to create illustrations for thank you cards to be given to our local volunteers, who sewed and donated hundreds of masks. These images will be printed on many cards to be circulated throughout our community.

I appreciate the energy, inspiration and commitment that you have all shown each other and our school community during the past months. There are lots of things that feel hard, wrong, and impossible in our worlds right now. Something that is not wrong nor a problem is YOU and your care, consideration and tireless effort during this crisis. Our kids and our community have something to look forward to, something to care about, something to keep them connected, something to celebrate, and something to be thankful for each day because YOU continue to do your job with a smile (I can see it through your mask) and with integrity. Thank you!

“Gratitude turns what we have into enough.” – Anonymous.

'Gratitude is basically a form of mindfulness. The power of gratitude is that you slow down and experience and enjoy all the good things that are already there.' As we head into the holidays, (under normal circumstances a hard time for many of our students) I encourage you to focus on activities and lessons that include or focus on the social & emotional needs of our students. It's ok to put aside the content and skills once and awhile right now to have a little fun. There are also many examples of how you all do a great job at having fun with your content, so let's keep that going.

* This will be the final weekly notes prior to break - ENJOY! *

Updates:

I can see and feel that as the COVID-19 wave pushes its way into our region and nearby schools are temporarily going remote you are wondering all sorts of things, such as, when are we going remote, will my students come to school, what do I need to prepare for, etc. First, I want you to know, that at this point, there are no positive cases amongst our students and staff. Those who are staying home, are doing so out of caution and care for our school community. Students and families are doing the right things and following our guidelines. While I know it feels uneasy right now, please know that our safety plans are working and we plan to stick with in-person as long as possible. If you have questions or needs, please reach out anytime.

1. New Bell Schedule - changes to transition and course length

Please allow for a mask break/snack break in each class

Please keep track of where students are sitting each class, for contact tracing, if needed.

Please emphasize physical distancing protocols when managing student groups

2. Please Complete the Snow Day Google Class Meet document

3. Concerned about a student after grading? Please complete an SST referral form

The display in the library is in observance of No-Shave November. No Shave November is celebrated to grow cancer awareness and raise funds to support cancer prevention, research, and education. Librarians often use a play on words for displays being "I mustache (must ask) you to read these books"

4. NHS Holiday Toy Drive: It’s that time of year again! Peoples Academy NHS is doing its annual toy drive, which this year is extra important due to COVID-19. One of the boxes for the Toy Drive is going to be located in front of the library doors, and the other one in the main office. This year we will be accepting new books and toys and gifts will need to be unwrapped.  We understand that this year is hard for everyone, all donations are appreciated but don’t feel pressured by any means. The event is starting on November 9th and we will stop accepting toys on December 2nd. Happy Holidays!
