May 21 - It's getting to be that time of year

The Year End Celebrating is about to begin.....  Thank you to the planners and chaperones who will make Prom an amazing Pandemic Memory.

Speaking of upcoming events and reminder, this week's opening is dedicated to another important reminder:

Student Led George Floyd Remembrance Event: (May 25th)

As many of you know, PA student leaders in the Racial Equity and Social Justice group, and probably other PA students, will walk out of school on May 25th at 2:30pm and head downtown to lead a remembrance event at the four way intersection. May 25th is the one year anniversary of George Floyd’s murder. Students from SHS, and possibly LUHS, will join our students in downtown Morrisville. Students from PA are leading the event, logistics, and communications.

This is a non sanctioned student-led event starting during school next week. Non-sanctioned means you can let the students walk out, but you should not give them official permission. This is actually what they want. They want this to be a form of protest. You can ask them to take responsibility for any part of your class that they miss.

Since fewer than 15 minutes will remain in your courses and the fact that they will already be accounted for in your attendance, you do not need to indicate in Powerschool who actually walks out.  However, for the sake of in-school and course records, please keep track of who leaves. It is also okay for you to attend the event to support the students, but if you have a period 4 course, you should not leave school until final dismissal.

Most of you have been here before and know what to do. MPD, several PA adults, including me, and other administration will be positioned to support the students and help maintain safety. If you have questions, concerns or ideas, please let me know.

Last Chapel Update:

A nice family moment
We're almost done with the filming for Last Chapel Video. Thank you for your patience and understanding with the interruptions to your classes, we know this was an added challenge last week. The process turned out to be quite complicated and cumbersome and we apologize for adding a few curve balls to classes. A huge thank you needs to go out to Sheila, Michele, and Tarah for some late night planning and super effective attention to detail & care for each student. And, big thanks to Peter to sitting in the heat and humid infected balcony for hours on Thursday and Friday.....with loads of editing to come.  We have a few more quick awards to film next week, but we're almost there!
