Feb 1 - Black History Month

AP Art student and senior, Julea Baronette, recently completed this powerful and engaging multimedia painting. It is now a 4 x 4 foot permanent display in the hallway between the gymnasium and cafeteria.

Black History Month starts this week. There are several different things occuuring at the classroom level throughout the month related to Black History. There has, and will continue to be exploration of Black American contributions, achievements and important roles in American history and culture throughout the school year in various classrooms. You do a nice job of exploring a wide range of cultures, race, ethnicity and ideas throughout the entire year in all of our courses. I encourage you to talk amongst yourselves to learn about what you are doing, and perhaps, discover new ways that we can build off each other in our content areas. As a school, we are not facilitating any schoolwide or community events, beyond recognition and consideration in Community Meeting. If students express an interest in doing something schoolwide, have them connect with Dan and the Culture Committy.

*Thank you to everyone who provided descriptions of your classroom level curriculum related to Black History. I didn't use all of it (I'm saving some for later). It was very helpful for our family communication.

There are a myriad of opportunities locally and digitally to engage in inspirational and educational events with your students. Below, is a list of a few events and resources to consider:
