| One on One check in's. |
We're getting close to the end of the semester and another mastery report. For some courses, this will be a final grade. I imagine that both you and your students are beginning to feel pressure and anxiety about the semester's end. Please be on the lookout and be positive toward each other during this time. You are good at this. Please also pay close attention to your students and report any concerning behavior to guidance, Amanda or Phil. You are also good at this. Our students are in good hands.
One way to know how your students are doing and how to tell them is through one on one conversations or check in's. (Above photo) I know it is hard to find the time for this in your limited class time, but where possible, I highly recommend trying to connect with each student. You can also try other strategies, such as, asking students questions directly through exit cards or a google survey. I might try questions like, 'what do you need help/support with right now, do you know how you are doing and what you need to do, is there anything making you concerned about this class, are you feeling ready for the end of the semester, etc.' This is a key time to check in on your learners understanding of what they need to do to complete your course as well as possible and to let them know that you care, are there to help, and that you want to know if they are struggling with something hidden 'under the surface.'

*** I know that many of you like to do 'end of the year' or 'seasonal' celebrations or activities with your TA the last week or so of the year. In the past, you've decorated cookies, sent carolers into the halls, etc. These are all great things. However, this year, you will not have the same amount of 'Free-time' in TA that you have had in the past. Please keep this in mind as you plan and, perhaps, consider and 'end of the semester celebration' during a TA in January. ***
