January 28 - Say goodbye to JANuary, which happens to be the Brady Bunch's favorite Month

'Say their Name' (look closely at the hair) - Original Art Work by Senior Addie Baranyay

Hi all, this time next week we'll all be in-service. Not long after that we'll be celebrating winter via Winter Carnival and then it will be February break and suddenly March. We are off to a strong start this semester....yes, there are areas for improvement, but school is relatively calm, students are on task (mostly), and our attendance has normalized. This is in large part a result of your diligence, commitment to staying healthy and positive, and perseverance. Thank you for your hard work and for being here.

Next week is also the start of February and Black History Month. Last year, we did some schoolwide activities related to Black History in America. We are not doing a similar schoolwide activity this year. I am aware of numerous things occurring in classes related to Black History, such as readings, discussions, art projects and more. If you are looking for ways to connect Black History Month to your curriculum, try this or this resource, talk to your peers, or talk to your students (they have great ideas, too.) From Learning for Justice, 'take this opportunity to restructure your curriculum a bit. Engage students in seeing concepts, issues, themes and problems from different points of view. Pick a focus and go deep with it.'

This Week's Link(s):

Many of you have seen this media bias chart before and it has now been updated!  This graphic started several years ago in response to media bias and the propagation of misinformation from popular media outlets.  It's very cool.  It could serve as a great tool to anchor discussions on evaluating sources and the benefit of seeking information from multiple sources.

...And from this time last year:

From the director of Good Trouble (about John Lewis); Black History Month (BHM) should last all Year. Look for 13 things you didn't learn in school about BHM, and consider using the 12 ways to celebrate Black History all year long.
