November 4 - We Won!

We're headed back to the Championship.....Congrats to the Boys Soccer Team who beat STOWE 2-1 in overtime last night. It was a raucous crowd, a hug community event actually, and the student section was positive and fun. There was a Bob Raymond sighting, too!! The next game is under the lights in Manchester, Vermont @5pm on Saturday. Book your flight today..:)....   Stay tuned for more details.

Monday's Welcoming party!

Quote of the Week: “Educating students is an inherently interpersonal endeavor. Caring relationships between teachers and students foster a sense of belonging for students and create classroom climates where students are poised to do their best learning.” - “‘This Is the Piece of the Pie We Can Control’ –  by Linda Mayger

This Week's Link(s):

'Now more than ever, the country needs young people to develop critical skills that can best be developed through competitive speech and debate.  Students who participate in competitive speech and debate:

    Have a higher graduation rate

    Have higher test scores

    Have a higher college-going rate and a higher college completion rate

These are especially true for traditionally disenfranchised groups

        Have increased class attendance rates

        Have increased self esteem

        Are less likely to experience early pregnancy, drug & alcohol abuse

Arne Duncan, former Secretary of Education, summarized it best, what we do is “almost uniquely suited to building what’s been called the “Four C’s” of 21st century skills—critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity. And to that list I might add a fifth “C”—for civic awareness and engagement.”

In short, competitive speech and debate will elevate our students like no other co-curricular activity.

This flyer introduces an upcoming Introduction to Competitive Speech & Debate event at Montpelier High School.  They will provide lots of support to new programs and coaches.  This is pretty late notice, but there will be other opportunities to learn more. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Phil.
