January 3 - Welcome Back

I hope you had a restful and enjoyable break. The hallways were lonely without you, but thankfully very colorful. I do appreciate seeing student work and expression on the hallways in our school. I know that the students, parents, and visitors also appreciate seeing student work. In fact, late last December there was an LSSU board meeting at PA. The board consists of community members from Stowe, Elmore, and Morrisville. Prior to the meeting they toured our facility. They were extremely impressed with our building, its cleanliness and order, and the exhibition of student work. These things matter.
Thus, I challenge all of you to find at least one way to display/exhibit/celebrate student work publicly during second semester. It can be as simple as posting student writing or work on a bulletin board to presenting at community meeting to exhibiting in a store front downtown. I can't wait to see more student work! Thanks.

Best Practice & other Updates:

We do not meet as a staff until after 2nd semester has started. Thus, we will not be talking about several important topics that are coming up. Thus, please read below carefully.

1. We are implementing the Reassessment-extension procedure during the 2nd semester. Please include this necessary communication with your classes. See me or your colleagues with questions. This document has answers to your questions from last Best Practice.

2. TA Update: During the first week of January Please complete this TA Activity and try to do academic check in's with your advisees. You can also talk about finals week preparation.

3. Scholarly Habits need to become important components in TA and our classrooms. We will be discussing how to do this during upcoming Best Practices. You can also anticipate using some TA time to work on how to use these and understanding of our Scholarly Habits. (Related, I mentioned this in a recent PA website blog post to the public.)

4. During December and throughout January the guidance department, myself and other at central office are working on changes to our schedule, the PA Program of Studies, the transcript and school profile. The HS Redesign team and Leadership Team will have input in these changes. You all will have opportunities too, and potentially part of in-service Feb 3rd will focus on the Program of Studies and next year's schedule. These things are going to look different than in the past. Please bring your questions to Phil or guidance.

5. January In-service is at PA. The schedule will start at 8 and end at 4pm. Anticipate working with your colleagues from Stowe and PA for most of the day.
