....April Fool's ....I think we're done with major winter storms....

On a more serious note, thanks for your continued work on Scholarly Habits. I am aware that our current increased use is a new and challenging thing to grapple with at this time of year.  This is, however, a good thing to grapple with. Our growth and experience with the use of Scholarly Habits will make us better educators and our students better learners.
The Scholarly Habits are designed specifically to be applicable and used across all disciplines and throughout school. They are measured independent of content mastery and should not be averaged with or included in a content grade. They are different from content. They are skills and behaviors, that when practiced, lead to success. Our goal in using them is to help students realize this, too, and thus, work at improving them. We use them to help our students become more aware of how to learn and where they can improve as learners. Giving them regular and ongoing feedback (in all of their classes and TA) will be monumental in helping them and us achieve our collective goal of graduating students who can express, construct and act.

Next Week: some examples of how to use Scholarly Habits in your classroom.

This week's Link(s): The 2 links below are from CVU Learns Blog, this is a great resource and worth joining. These are short helpful readings. The 1st I shared in last week's BP notes:
      - Work (Scholarly) Habits
      - Standards Based Learning and Special Education (really, really helpful!)

SBAC...it's on!

FYI - Phil is going to the GUSKEY Institute in Btown next Tues/Wed with members of curriculum counsel and Val. We will be developing a grading/reporting strategy for the entire SU....hopefully this will help answer lots of questions and pave the way for this fall.

Introducing....After reading numerous applications and a morning of interviews the Consulting Teacher interview committee has successfully filled the vacancy in that department beginning in July.

Kate Bradley is a native Vermonter returning home after seven years of working in the Colorado Rockies.  She is currently a special education resource teacher at Nederland Middle Senior High School just west of Boulder. Here's some nice feedback from a group that hosted the 4H Spring Showcase here at PA two weekend's ago (and thanks to Michele, Brian and others for helping to facilitate use of the building for that weekend).

Hi Michele,
It went great! Your custodian was awesome to work with!  You have a beautiful school and I over heard many compliments to the amazing art work on the walls from the students and some kiddos asking their parents if they could go to PA!  Thank you for the opportunity to host our event as your school.
