October 9 - We're finding a groove....
There are numerous thought provoking art projects with written statements in the hallway, by the library. Check them out! (*Monday is Indigenous Peoples Day) |
Thank you all for you hard work and dedication to our re-opening. We've come a long way on our challenging and obstacle filled journey. Thank you for staying the course and bringing your amazing energy and ideas to our school, day after day under tough circumstances.
Your work is making an impact. One example comes from a short review of the STAR data, which suggests that our students, in general, have not lost ground on their learning during the pandemic. While it may feel like much has been lost, our students math and literacy benchmarks in STAR suggest that your efforts to keep the learning going have worked! There remains work to do and support needed for our students (and each other), but please know that your efforts are paying off.

Updates:
1. Please remind students to visit Michele for a tardy slip if they arrive to your class late. The screening process doesn't always allow her to see students entering the building. Thank You!
2. Got Travel?!: As we head into the Holidays: Monday, Halloween, Turkey-day, etc., you may here students talking about going places or people coming to visit them. You, too, may soon be traveling. Please be sure to remind these students (and yourself) about travel COVID guidelines and quarantine expectations. Always check the travel advisory map before traveling, while traveling and when people visit.
3. This year (2020-2021) we are using a new content filter for student devices. The product is called Securly. Securly is designed to block sites and content that are not suitable for school. The biggest difference students and families will see this year is since the filter is on the device, the content filtering that we use in our buildings is now applied to our devices when they are at home. If a site is blocked (image below) that you want students to access or if your student feels a site has been blocked by mistake, please email tech support or have the student use the on-screen button to request access to the site.

TA (Teacher Advisory)
10/14 - 9:00-9:30 am - Remote - send students an invite
By Wednesday 10/14, it will be 3 weeks since we did the last SEL (Social Emotional Check in) survey for our students. We had a decent response and are following up with individual students where needed. We'd like to survey students again, but not during TA. We feel that students will be more likely to complete the survey in school, under your in-person supervision. Thus, we'd like students to complete the survey during period 3 next Thursday (green) and the following Tuesday (gold). (You can use the independent time if that works for your students). Michele will share the survey with students around 10:30 am on 10/15.
During TA, we'd like to review with students the schoolwide data and help reinforce the purpose and use of this survey. Thus, the activity linked below, provides a few discussion questions and script for you to use with TA on 10/14. Please see members of SST if you have questions or want some help: Carrie, Chris P, Dan, Eric, Lindsey, Jim C, karen P, Margot, Phil, Shannon.
