September 24th: How to start a movement.....you're already doing it
Students in Moira Donovan's classes are starting a movement (well, maybe following the lead from Instagram). Rather than except the plethora of 'bad news, news' these students are taking control of the narrative in their heads and shifting the tone. They are looking at a problem and rather than saying 'if only the news wasn't so negative....' and instead asking themselves, what can we do differently to change the tone. I encourage you to join the movement....and maybe start something similar in your classroom?
This effort reminded me of a quote I heard echoed by many of you during in-service, 'Rather than 'IF only', let's think 'WHY' and search collectively for solutions'. (Think back to Sioux Falls v. El Paso). What you say and how you say it, what you do and how you do it goes a long, long way toward influence the behaviors of your students. Our students are often kind, welcoming, and positive, in part, because you are. Thank you.
The Memoirs are fun to read - on the walls by the Aud...and these help spread good vibes. |

Updates:
We're Going for it - ALL SCHOOL TRIP IS ON FOR THURSDAY, 9/30. What does this mean for you and our students:
Prior to Thursday: Let's try to keep the trip at least somewhat mysterious. That means don't tell kids, keep them a little bit unsure. I'll explain why at Monday's Best Practice. I know, most of them will get the hints and think it's on, but if we can keep it a little bit uncertain, this will help with the excitement factor and build up to Thursday.
- A HINT reminder will come from me during the Community Meeting on Tuesday
- When confronted about Thursday, you can say things like: 'I haven't heard about an all school trip yet, we might all go outside for a TA challenge....I'm planning an important project for Thursday's class, so come prepared....'
- On THURSDAY, students will go to period 1, then an announcement will send them to TA at the start of period 2.
- At that point, students will watch a short video explaining how the trip to Elmore is going to work...and then we'll hop on the buses...(details on trip will be reviewed on Monday at BP - you can check the BP notes now for info)
- Around 2pm we'll head back to PA
A Reminder On Contact Tracing:
While we haven’t had to do it yet, we want to make sure when the time comes to do some contract tracing we can do it accurately and efficiently. Please make sure you have a reliable way to tell where students are sitting in proximity to each other in your classroom. Sometimes taking a picture can be helpful.
Let the good times 'role'... |
