October 1 - It's time to Rocktoberfest!

What month is rock stars favorite? Rock-tober, of course. ......pause for laughter.... Thanks to the musicians who kicked off our Community Meeting on Tuesday. I look forward to seeing many more of you up there jamming away.  By the way, as I told the students at the meeting, if you don't like my bad good jokes, you are most welcome to take the stage and provide your own. I know that you can do better than me.

Speaking of jokes, humor can help us to 'be here now' and appreciate the moment. It can be a positive distraction from things that are bothering us, frustrating or stressful. Though it's temporary, it's healthy and fun. "Laughter is grounding. In fact, the origin of the word humor comes from the same place as the words humility and humanity: from the word humus, 'earth, fertile soil'. When we laugh at ourselves, we don't take ourselves as seriously. When we laugh at others, humor breaks barriers, bring us onto common ground and builds our resilience." -from Onward: Cultivating Emotional Resilience in Educators; Aguilar

October is a time for us to build our resilience. We've been working hard, at a fast pace, and focusing on the needs of others for more than a month. This is one reason we make the effort to take the All School Trip. It's a good break from everyday work and gives and our students a moment to simply be with one another and enjoy our wonderful state. Additionally, let's take some time this month to make each other laugh and be together in fun ways. Thanks for being an awesome bunch and I look forward to laughing with you.
